Our mission

In the face of devastating climate change, there is an urgent need to move to a circular economy.

It is time for a better way.

From plastic pollution to climate change, our planet is being challenged in ways that it never has been before. One of the core issues is that humanity has traditionally operated using a linear economy. That is we ‘make-use-dispose’ as we go about our daily lives.

We simply do not have that option any more.

The circular economy proposes a different system. Resources are kept in use for as long as possible, then recovered and used to regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. It is a system that is balanced and sustainable, not just for today but tomorrow.

So, what is needed is a paradigm shift in the way in which we think of waste.

We have turned our attention to feathers.

The problem with poultry feathers

As a fast growing source of protein with a relatively low carbon footprint, the popularity of poultry as a round the world continues to grow, with approximately 134 million chickens being consumed every day.

Yet most people have never stopped to think ‘what happens to all of those feathers?’.

Making up around 5% of a bird's weight, feathers quickly become a significant waste disposal issue. Often, they are either incinerated or turned into low-grade animal feed.

But, by harnessing their properties and creating useful novel materials, at AEROPOWDER we think feathers can do so much more.
